Working on, not in.

Published 29 days ago • 1 min read

Hi there Creator 👋🏻

We hear this phrase a lot in the entrepreneurial space - work on your business, not just in it.

So what does that mean?

Simply put, working in your business is making sure that the basic functions of the business are up to date. It's the day-to-day responsibility of making sure your business runs smoothly. It's the operational activities of running your business; think of the value chain of delivering your products and services to your customers. Activities like sales, marketing, financial management, inventory management, time blocking and networking.

Whereas working on your business is taking a bird's eye view of the market landscape in which your business operates. It's leading your business into a sustainable future of growth and development. This is where you form your strategy for the overall business, for product development and market outreach. Activities like developing a marketing plan, researching new products or services, creating efficient systems, and hiring and training employees.

So how can a Creators juggle the two roles?

Honestly...

We start by acknowledging that balance is an illusion. We simply can not balance our way through the equal distribution of time between working on and working in your business. Most often, there will be times when one will be prioritized over the other.

The easiest way is to lean towards an integration of the two roles. Linking key strategic goals to daily activities.

For example, if you would like to grow your outreach by 10% using the power of Linkedin in the next 90 days, you should review what daily activities you are doing that will make it easy for you to achieve this goal. The daily activities could include posting content, engaging in the comment section of other creators' posts, and a mix of warm and cold outreach direct messages. The strategic activities would be reviewing the impact of your engagement, the quality of your leads and the reviewing the content style that moves the needle.

In business, it is never "either or" but rather "and". The moment that you integrate your daily operations with your strategic planning, you will see your business in a holistic view. Offering a comprehensive and insightful perspective of your profitability, accessibility, and overarching impact within a competitive market landscape.

But where do you start?

By being completely honest about where we are and being kind to the business operator and business owner that you are.

The next step is to schedule an internal day in your calendar. This day is solely focused on the strategic view of your business. Reviewing, aligning and celebrating your business. You can do this alone or you can give me a call. I'm here to help you work on your business.

Warm African greetings
